The Suffragettes escaped b} a taxi-cab. Mrs. Pankhurst, who was recently imprisoned, has suffered another collapse through hunger-striking. It is expected, in consequence, that she will again be released on license. (Rec. June 1, 5.5 p.m.) London, May 31. A boxful of oil-soaked cotton-wool has been found at the Royal Academy, surrounded by burning wax .tapers. Mrs. Pankhurst has been released, and removed in an ambulance. Though her condition is serious, sho is less prostrated than on the last occasion.

SENATE AND THE ARMY SCHEME. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Paris, May 31. The Senate, practically unanimously, agreed to the grant for the retention of time-expired 'soldiers with the colours. The Radical supporters of M. Caillaux, one of the aspirants to the Pre'mvership, are assisting the Socialists in the Chamber of Deputies in a strong onslaught on the Government's financial proposals, particularly the income tax loan.
