Hughes, Missos Watt, and Median. _ Tho Union Boat Club held its annual reunion on Thursday evening. Mr. _J. Bates, vice-president, was in the chair, and was supported by Captain Sharpe, and Messrs. T. Ferry, A. W. Pawson, nnd C. V. Powell, members or the club in distant days. Toasts were proposed and r<>si>onded to by Messrs. M'Gomgle, Bates, Ferrv, A. Gray, C. V. Powell, W. Sharpe. Evans, Guilford, and Dixon. Tlio trophies won in competition during the season wero presented during the ovening. As soon as the Museum Committee and tho Borough Council can come to an equitable arrangement as to maintenance the proposed new museum buildings will be put in liand.
NAPIER. Mr. A. B. Stono has arranged to give a monoplane flight at JJapier Park racecourso on Tuesday. The Boys' Brass Band, of the Wellington Mission, is to visit Napier by to-day b train, and will fjivo a scries of concerts, returning to Wellington on Ayednesday. Mr. Kon Allen, of tho Napier branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has received notico of his transfer to Gisborne, and was to leave by last night's boat. _ Tho new schools to bo erected at papier AVcst and Mahora South will bo of similar design, and will be of brick, each containing four class-rooms, 22ft. by 33ft., a room for the headmaster and another for the lady teachers.. About 590 couples attended the Port School ball, vrhicu was held in Dalgcty's largo wool store. Tho decorations were arranged by Mrs. Bhodes-Williams and Contains Peterson and M'Alister. Messrs. Rhodes-Williams and B. M'Spratt were joint-secretaries, and tho M.C.'s were Captain Peterson and Messrs. C. Probble H. Angrove, G. lliddell, J. R. Fahey, A. Fenton, E. T. Handley, J. Gray, and R. M'Spratt. Tho Mayor, Mr. J. Vigor Brown, opened tho ball.
NEW PLYMOUTH. Somo discussion took place at Wednesday's meeting of tho Education Board on tho action of tho Auditor-General in dishallowing a payment of J27 7s. to Mr. A. Morton, a member of the board, as expenses in attending tho Education Conference at Wellington, and .£1 15s. paid to another member, Mr. H. Trimble, for his expenses in attending tho Royal Commission at Wanganui. The board passed a resolution of emphatic protest at tho action of tho Auditor-General. Miss A. Anderson, assistant school teacher at Kaimata, and Miss M. Wilson, head teacher at Marco, have resigned their positions under the l'aranaki Education Board. ' Oil Monday evening last tho Rev. U. M. Stent, newly-inducted vicar of Opunaka parish, was accorded a public reception at tho Town Hall, Opunake. \ The Park Tennis Club held its annual "social" at the Brougham Street Hall on Tuesday evening. The music was supplied by Mrs. Woods, and musical items were contributed by tho Misses Smith and Gilbert and Messrs. Mcikle, Frederic, and Smith (Waitara).
HASTINGS. The billiard room proprietors of Hastings liavo petitioned the Hastings Borou"li Council to extend tho hour of closing from 10 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. on week | days and 11 p.m. on_ Saturdays. A concert was held in St. Andrew s Hall on AYednesday evening, in aid of tho Presbyterian building fund. Mr. D. Ford presided, and tho following contributed (o tho nrogrammeMisses Turtle, I. Thompson, Stirling, I'ord, Mrs. M Dud Bovd, and Messrs. Baunton, J. E. Jones, Sparling, Snaddon, Carr, and H. W. Collins. Tho Albion Hockey Club gavo the first of this season's hockey dances in tho Oddfellows' Hall on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Hastings was nt tho piano,- and Messrs. K. Harding, R. Groves, G. Maddison acted as M.C.'s. . Mr. A. Masters has been elected chairman of tho Hawke's Bay Ploughing Match Committee, aud Mr. J. C. Baird vicechairman.
DANNEVIRI^E. Mr. B. T. Sadd, Commissioner of Crown Lands for Hawke's Bay, arrived in Da.iinevirke on Wednesday, accompanied bv Messrs. Ritchie and Hyde, of the Land Purchase Board, having visited estates offered to tho Government for closer settlement by Messrs. Holden, Carlyon, Hardey, Nestor, Jameson, Rhodes, and Yallai\co in tho vicinity of Tikokino (Hampden), Gwavas and Onga Onga. On Thursday Mr. Sadd inspected some nulling timber on tho State forest reserve up the Tamaki River. Mr. C. J. Eeakes, Chief Veterinarian, paid an official visit to tho Danncvirke abattoirs on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. S. left by the express train on Thursday for Nairobi, British East Africa, after paying n short visit to relatives in Hawkes Bay. The following school committees have been elected:—Kumeroa: Messrs. Dobson (chairman and secretary), Mackie, Dunford, Little, Drager, Bryant, and Shepherd. I'apatawa: Messrs. Murray (chairman), Ilockin (secretary), Martin, Mills, Goldsworthy, Kinane, and Wood. Tho Hunt Club held a rim in beautiful Tveather at Manfatera on Wednesday, ilio drag was laid by Messrs. W. Cameron arid J. Wilson. At, tho end of the run tlio party wero entertained by Mrs. M Crca at afternoon tea.

Music was supplied bv Messrs. L. Nicholas and H. Pritchnrd, and "extras" were contributed by 111" Marshall (Palmerston North), and Mr. U Chaiwin. Tho committee, comprised Messrs. K. Carroll, G. W.
