MILITARY PENSIONS.
Sir.—ln a last week's issue of yonr valuable paper a letter was inserted regnrdins military pensions from a correspondent'in Nelson. I cordiallv agree with the writer that it was time that all those veterans entitled to n war medal and in posses; sion of one, . who served in Hie Maori war, should obtain their pensions without restrictions, but I do not quite nsreo with ono or two of his remarks about the present Government and the official who administers the Act. The former is the only Government that has attempted to ploee the veterans in a position they are entitled to, tho only trouble is that they did not go far enough. The Ward ?*[inistry made a feeble attempt in •rassinsr nn Act, headed in large headlines, "Military Pensions," and which was. in reality, 'the old flse pensions dished up. It was an insult to the intelligence of a botlv of men who held the conntrv for the benefit of the present feneration. With rcard to the official, ho is in his position to" administer the Act, and is powerless to ijo beyond. I trust an amending Bill will bo passed.—l am. etc.. 1 ENFIELD RIFLE.
