With a view to conciliating tho Socialists tlio Government has introduced a progressive Incomo Tax Bill to cover interest and redemption of a forty million pounds military loan, cWninencing in January, 1915. It is promised to impose tax of ono per centum -on incomes up to .£2OOO, of two per ceutnm up to X4OOO, and three per contain 'above .£IOOO, the first iiJOO of incomo to Y>o exempt. There will be n further exe'.nption of JC-10 per child under 16 years of ajo or for parents or grandparents over 70 years of ago dependent oil the taxpayer.
The total yield is estimated at dC2,SOO. 000.
