MARINE ENGINEERS.

THE AGREEMENT SIGNED. The agreement arrived at between the Marine Engineers' Institute and the smaller shioping companies ill the matter of wages and conditions for service, was signed; by Mr. N. M'Robie (for the companies), and Mr. T. 11. Wallace (for the Institute), in the presence of the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. P. Hally) yesterday. All that now remains to be done is for the agreement to bo Teferred to the Arbitration Court for ratification as an award, to remain in force for three years as from April 1,, 1913. The rates for tho chief engineers aro 'as follow: Undor 20 nominal horse-power, JG2I per month; from 20 to 10 n.h.p., ,£22; 40 to 00 n.h.p., .£22 10s.; 60 to 80 n.h.p., jC23j from 80 to 100 n.h.p., i! 23 10s. Second engineers are to recoivo .£l7 10s., end third .815 10s. per month.

For twelve months' continuous service, engineers Bhall be entitled in each year to leave of absence of fourteen days on full, sea pay (without victualling allowance), and at such time as shall be mutually agreed upon. Leave may be accumulated up to thro& years, at the option of the'employers. A' victualling allowance (under certain conditions) of ; 6s. per day is provided for. The award will, not apply to vessels iplying "within extended river limits.
