FATAL RAILWAY ACCIDENT.

Auckland, May 28. 'A mac, who has not yet been identified, met with a fatal mishap nt tlio Avondale railway station at 5.20 o clock this evening. At this hour two trams meet at the station—the inward and outward Kaipara trains. It appears that a middleaged, man boarded the train at Mo ant Eden, more or les3 the worso for liquor. On reaching Avondale the Kaipara-bound train takes tho outer'set of rails, the inner track being reserved - for the bound train. Passengers alighting at Avondale have either to alight r>n tho opposite side to 'the platform or oross tho other train. It appears that deceased chose the latter alternative, lie sueoessfully negotiated the stops of the carriages and hail reached the station Pl ft J* form tvlien hn was soon to lurch ana tail betwoon the first and second carriages. When picked up life was extinct. His hat has a strip of paper pasted inside which is inscribed "H. Gillies." Tho deceased wa9 subsequently identified as Peter Walker, a widower, aged 65; years. . ;
