WANGANUI RIVER SERVICE.
DISCUSSION BY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. (By Teleffrapli.—Press Association.) Wanganui,' May ' 27. A special meeting'' of the AVanganui Chamber of Commerce was held to-night to discuss tlie Wanganui river • service. The attendance was not large. The chairman niled , that no personal grievances sholild ■. The . chairman moved, a'ikl it" was carried: "That in ofider to facilitate the working of- the river ;stoamer service without, undue friction a complete schedule of charges for both .passengers and cargo to various points of i the rireivr'EotKC'eh'..'."AVan.Ea'niii: and Tauf marunui bo published and made available jto all requiring to use the river service." ! It was complained that, there/were only, two charges between Wanganui- and T«umaruuui.: ' Mr. W. J. Poison moved: "That tha chamber opinion that Iho time has arrived for the Government to inaugurate nn up-river snrvico for the Wanqanui River, and that an export bo sent Homo fo arrange for the construction and purchase of a fleet of steamers. I Mr. A. Hatrick. stated that for years past he wanted the. Government to take over control. He 'regarded the latter part •of tho motion as amounting to a proposal to confiscate '• the present lino of steamers. After discussion the motion was carried, the last, sentence being deleted. Tho resolutions will bo forwarded, to tho River Service Commission.
