Professor Cardston arrived on Monday in I'almerston to conduct classes for the Band Carnival. About 400 performers will participate in the carnival. A public meeting was held in the Municipal Hall on Monday under the auspices of tho Bible-in-State Schools League. A large audience listened to addresses by C'anon Garland and other speakers. The Mayor, Mr. J. A. Nash, presided, and there wero also on tho platform the Revs. H. G. Kosher and. D. Hird.
The Supreme Court business in Palmerston will be suspended oil Saturday, when his Honour Mr. Justice Chapman will leave for Wangamii to open tho sessions there. In a fortnight from that time he must preside over tho Napier sittings, and it is doubtful whether he will bo able to return to Palmerston to deal with the untouched cases in tho interim.

DANNEVIRKE. Dannevirke's new Town Hall has paid actual working expenses and interest on its first year. . It is the intention, of the Commissioner of Crown Lands to come to Dannoyirke next week to inspect the Taraaki and the Makotuku blocks. After a residence of four or five years in Dannevirke, Mrs. anil Miss Wiltshire departed yesterday for Wellington. MARTON. Tho Marten Brass Band journeyed to the scene of the "stranded liner on Sunday, and played a number of selections on the beach. Each selection was applauded by the crew and officers on deck, and three cheers were given by the crew at the conclusion of tho programme.
