A STORMY PASSAGE.
, SEAMAN LOST OVERBOARD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Nelson, May 27. The three-masted schooner Maroro, from Nowcastle, with coal, reached Nelson today after a stormy passage. Tho vessel left Newcastle on May 3, and encountered a succession of gales, not running into good weather until passing Capo Egmont. During a squall early on Sunday morning an ordinary seaman named Leslie Miller was lost overboard while shortening sail. A bo.at was lowered, and tho vessel remained in tho vicinity for several hours, but. nothing wns 6een of Miller. Tho missing man belonged to Sydney.
Sir George Askwith, president of tlio British Industrial Council, speaking at the inaugural dinner of the Production Managers' Association, said that ho did not think compulsory arbitration in trade disputes could bo enforced, or that it would bo suitable to this country. Ho onco hoard a Welsh miners' leader say to a Cabinet Minister, 'Ye cannot put 1100,000 wen into prison. 'That,' added Sir George, "strikes you in tho eye?."
