EDUCATION BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board was held yesterday, there being present: The chairman (Mr. Robert Lee), and Messrs. J. Kebbell, T. Moss, A. W. Hogg, H. Freeman, Wm. Allan, J. G. W. Aitkcn, and W. 11. I'ield.
The monthly statement'of finances disclosed a debit balance of -EI7OG 19s. 6d., as against a debit balance for the previous month of .53527 19s. Bd.
Intimation was received from the Education Department that Government grants had been authorised as follows:— Eketahuna, grant for fittings for science and woodwork rooms', etc., c£lSo; Greytown, grant for science and cookery rooms, .£750.
Orj. tho recommendation of the committee appointed to deal with the lack of provision made for outside shelter for infants attending the South AVellington School, the board dccidcd to proceed with the erection of a shelter-shed in a suitable position. Grants for works and supplies were authorised as follow: —Terrace, fencing, ctc.; Kilbirnie, extra, asphalt; Waingawa, now latrines, shed repairs, fencing; Northland, tool cupboard; Parkvale, tank, and repairs to gates; Island Bay, grates; Saunder's Road, fencing; Hamua, alterations to porch; Fcrnridge, painting infants' rcom, hyloplate, repairs chimney and sheds; Karori, ventilators in corridor; Island Bay, asphalting, drainage, etc.; tipper Hutt, grates; Tauherenikau, paths and metalling; Taratahi W., now latrines, lining porch, windows, fencing, etc.; Mnste'rlon Side School, blinds; South eilington, -plumbing work, and fencing; \Vharau, fencing; 'Johnsonyille, infants' school, skylight iu corridor; South Wellington, cookery room, painting of walls; Carterton, painting; Clyde Quay, lavatory basins; Mount Cook Boys' l'.guting, fencing, asphalt, ctc.; Makoinako, now latrines; Ihuraua, flooring of sheds; Tablelands, metal; Kaituna, footbridge, subsidy of £ for £; Mitchclltown, ground slip, removal of soil; Stokes Valley, removal of outbuildings; Carterton, master c desk (half-cost). It was decided that the following wortcs should bo undertaken when grants wore authorised:—Opaki (residence), bath, was.ihousc, drainage; Tauherenikau (residence), bath and wash-liouso; Matarawa _ (residence), wash-house, drainage, repairs to sheds. It was further resolved that application bo made for grants for additions to schools at Shannon, Tokomaru, and Island Bay: Library subsidies on the following donations vrero authorised, in accordance with tho usual conditions:—Carterton, £2 lis. Gil.; Kongomni, £2 iOs. An application for a shelter-shed at Otaki was held over. Tho following applications were declined:—Hamua, painting roof and rough fence; Upper Ilutt old site, offer of .£l4" for purchase. • ■ The clerk of works was instructed to visit Ngaio and report on the disposal or storm-water. The question of a residence site at Paraparauniu was loft in the hands of th? chairman and secretary. Tho board agreed to the alteration of a room in the teacher's residence at IConini.
