MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Mr. W. G. Kiddcll, S.M., presided at yesterdays sitting of the Magistrate's Court. ' Walter MTarlane, who was represented by Mr. O'Leary, was cliarged with tho theft of a bridle, tho property of John Gibbons, a farm hand at Ohariu Valley. Evidence was given by John Gibbons to the effect that he had placed the bridle under a tree in (his paddock during the morning of May 4, and on returning in the afternoon the bridle was missing. Counsel for accused asked for an adjournment until Wednesday, which was granted. Mrs. C. MTtae, licensee of a milk shop in Eintoul Street, was fined 10s. for selling adulterated milk. She pleaded not guilty, and in reply to a question by the magistrate, stated that she had Bold the milk in the 6ame condition as received. His Worship replied that defendant must take steps tending to ensure .that tho milk which she had for sale was of the standard required by the Act. . John Gordon, charged with disobeying a maintenance order which was £G Bs. in 'arrears! was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment. Hugh Douglas, for a similar offence, was fined 405.. in default 6oven days' imprisonment. A similar charge was preferred against Francis Joseph Itoberts, lviio was fined 40s. James Ferguson Scott, who was arrested on a charge of failing to provide adequate means of support for his wife, was remanded to appear at Pahiatua on. May 28.

On charges of insobriety, Henry James Wren was fined 205., in default three days 1 imprisonment; Patrick Rice was fined 10s., with the option of going to gaol for forty-eight hours; three first offenders wore fined 10s., one 55., and one was convictod and discharged. On a charge of drunkenness, Alex. Thompson was convicted, and discharged, and on a charge of using objectionable language, was fined =C 3, with costs 45.. in default fourteen days' imprisonment. » Eor wilfully assaulting Walter Frederick Hason, Daniel Sullivan was fined 40a., with costs 45., in default seven days' imprisonment. .
