THE PETONE POST OFFICE.
MINISTER'S INSPECTION. Yesterday afternoon the PostmasterGeneral (Hon. R. H. Rhodes) paid a visit to Petono for tho purposo of inspecting the improvements which tiro now being carried out at the local post office. Tho Minister was received by the Mayor (Mr. J. D. M'Ewan), and Councillors Findlay and Trueman. Mr. M'Ewan pointed out what ho termed the unsnitability of the additions, and drew attention to the colour in which tho building was painted. Councillor Findlay emphasised tho Mayor's remarks, and (urged that tho building should bo .improved. Ho asked that an additional £100 be spent on tlio work. ...
In reply tho Minister stated that the post office would be repainted a suitable colour, but the question of spending mol'o nibnev was out of the question. Such a sum as £100 would build a post office in tho back-blocks. He would not promiso any further improvements than tho painting.
