Dr. Salvador Castrillo, a retiring Nicaragua Minister, believes that a Treaty for a canal across Nicaragua will shortly be negotiated. The competition of such a canal would considerably lessen the journey from New York and the American Atlantic ports to San Francisco than via Panama.
