PAPAROA REPORTED. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Paparoa was expected to arrive at Hob&rt at 7-o'clock on Saturday oveninz last. Tho vessel is due to leave the Tasmanian port on Tuesday morning for W-cllineton direct, and is scheduled to arrive here on Saturday afternoon next. ' 110T0RUA AT MONTE VIDEO. After haying undergone many experiences during tho last six weeks, the Wollineton♦Motueka. trader Manaroa. mado her reappearance at Wellington yesterday. Tho littlo vessel went ashore on tho nicht of April 18 in tho vicinity of the Beef Barrels. Subsequently she was refloated end on Saturday she was towed to Wellington by the Anchor Line's steamer Regulufi; which was on route from Westport to, Gisborne. Durinc the tow.across Cook Strait tho line parted, but without much difficulty tho Besulus cot hold of the Manarca and mado Wellington Harbour fafely. It was originally intended that the Manama would berth at No. 13, but on entering the harbour it was found that she was making a good deal of water, hence it wa>3 dccided to beach her at Kaiwarra. It will bo a surprise to many of the shipping people (says the "Sydney Shipping List") to know that the Norddeutschcr Lloyd has disposed of one of ito well-known training vessels—the Herzogin Sophie Charlotte. So far, the name of the new owners or the price tho vessel was sold for lias not been disclosed. Tho H&rzogin Sophie Charlotte was originally known as the Albert Rickmere, and was built by R,ickmers, of Geostomuud, in 1894. She is a vessel of 22<!8 tons net and-2591 tone gross. Tho "Sophie" visited Auckland some few years ago. RUDDER WITH DOOR IN IT. A rudder with a doorway into tho Interior is a striking feature of tho Cun&rd giant liner Aquifcania, which is shortly to be launched. The rudder hae just been placed in position," and is so large that a doorway h&6 been constructed in ths lower part to admit workmen so that they can remove the pin which connccts the rudder to the ship.. This oin is 4ft. in, length, and bigger than tho heaviest projectiJc nia-do for modern artillery. A special appliance had to. be constructed/in tho ship to lift it into position. When delivered at tho builder's yard tho rudder wao in three parts. After they had been connected and laid upon tho ground, the distance that had to be walked to posg round it was over 100 ft. Eannatyue and Co., Ideal oients. advise that, the Tyser liner Star ot Ireland. which left Wellington for London on April 2, han arrived ot her destination lifter a passage of 49. days. Prom Welliimlon the schooner Awnnui proceeded to Wnstjiort and Greymouth. Timber will be loaded at the latter port for Gisbornc.
