"The service is becoming increasingly attractive to boys. Very tew departments will take girls if thoy can get boys. Boys are more generally useful, as they can be utilised to do work or go to places in a wav which is impossible in tho case of girls. Girls can generally be obtained who have obtained very high places in tho entrance examination, whereas the boys who enter tho service are largely those who have been lower down on the list; but, all the same, tho boys are preferred."
