A WOMAN'S LAW COURT.
CHICAGO EXPERIMENT.,
The "Woman's Court" established by ■ Judge Pinckney in Chicago has proved a success, and after a fortnights trial the Judge and his nominee, Judge Marv M. Bartelme, say tlicy are 'Completely .satisfied with tho result ,of tho experiment (writes the Chicago correspondent of the "Manchester Guardian ). Convinced that there wera many cases in which a woman would prove a bettor arbitrator than a. man, Judge Pinckney appointed Miss Bartelme to hear all essentially feminine casas, and sho has been most successful in dealing with wayward girls or those "who never had a chance. No men are admitted to "Judge" Bartelme's court when cases of this class are being dealt with, the probation officers, court bailiffs, clerk, and official stenographers and reporters all being women. In every case the defendants have shown less reluctance to tell their stories than has been the case in "man-run" courts. Miss Bartelmo puts the argument for tho reform in tho following words.—lt is our hope to got justice for thoso unfortunate girls and women who_ would rather go to prison than tell their troubles to a court of men, and I am satisfied that so far our efforts have been most successful. Thero are many details of evidence which can bo extracted from a woman' ty one of her •'own sex which would never be divulged to a man, mid I am convinced that if every court had a branch 'woman's court' the administration of justico would bo far simplor and more satisfactory." ■
