NEW ZEALANDER'S ACADEMY PICTURE. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright London, May 22. A landscape, "Winter," by Archibald Nicoll, a New Zealander, has been hung on the line at tho Royal Academy. A landscapo and portrait by "the same painter has been hung at tho Scottish Academy. Mr. Archibald Nicoll is a Christchuroh student, who before leaving for Homo was freely recogniscd as an artist of possibilities. He belonged to Christchurch, but for some time prior to leaving the Dominion he was acting as assistant teacher at the Elam School of Art. Auckland. Just beforo going Home, Mr. Nicoll gave sketch exhibitions in Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland, and on those occasions his work was favourably commented upon. He devoted his attention in New Zealand to landscapes and portraits. During the two years he has been at Home lie has resided chiefly in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
