LOWER COURT,

(Before Mr. W. G. Eiddell, S.M.) JOHN LEAHY IN COURT AGAIN. POLICE REMARKS ON HIM. In the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr. W. G. Eiddell, S.M., John Loahy pleaded guilty to a charge of his having sold liquor without being licensed to do 80. It was stated that a plain clothes constablo went to Leahy's house, in York Street, and purchased there whatever beer he wanted at Is. Cd. per bottle. "Leahy is a worthless man," said SubInspector Sheohan, "and lie lives on the proceeds of a woman's prostitution, and by selling sly-grog." Leahy was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. He is already serving a sentence of six months' imprisonment. Annio Purcell and Thomas Brown, who wore found in Leahy's "house, wero each fined, the former 10s. and the latter JEI. "TWENTY-FIVE MILES AN HOUR." Nathan Seddon pleaded not guilty to a charge of his having ridden a motor-cycle across a Courtenay Place Street- intersection at more than eight miles an hour. Police officers stated in evidence that they timed Seddon, and that ho crossed the intersection at tho rate of "25 miles per hour." This defendant disputed, but tho Court found him guilty of a breach of tho bylaw, and fined him 55., with oosts 7s. BY-LAWS BROKEN. Ernest French, who rode a horse at more than a walking pace round the corner of Adelaide Road and John Street, and knocked down an old man, was fined ss„ with costs 7s. Hans Scott, who left a motor-car standing on tho roadside without a light, was fined 55., with costs 7s. George Neisli was fined 55., with costs 75.. for having ridden a motor-tricycle at night without a light. James Wilson was fined 55., with costs 135.. for having driven on tho wrong side of tho road. Patrick Cavanagli was convicted on six charges of allowing stock to wander. Tho fines and costs imposed on him totalled .E6 16s.

. DEFENCE ACT. The following were fined £2 for failure to attend military camps:—J. M, Calcinai, C. E. Stairmand, L. 11. -Deslandcs, and Henry Marshall. For failure to attend military parade, E. G. M'Gill was ordered to pay 7s. costs. BUILDING REGULATION. A charfjo breaking the Onslow Borough building regulations was mado against James Creigliton, but was dismissed by the Court. DPJNK AND OTHER. CASES. For insobriety, Patrick Shannon, was fined 10s., William Robertson 10s., and James Breen -C' 2. Charged with being women who con-' sorted wtih reputed thieves and prostitutes, Sarah Falcon, Annie Couirtenay, and I Martha Courtenay were sent to prison for three months, and Annabelln Swanson v;as sentenced to one month's imprisonment.
