(Prom Our SdooI&I Oorrosponilcnt.) 9 011 Wednesday evening a conversazione was held in the schoolroom of the llutt Methodist Church. There was a largo attendance, and the Rev. Barton Ginger presided. During the evening items were rendered by Misses Shearer (2). Naboy, Lewis, Knight, and Messrs. Rishworth and Saunders.
111 regard to tho requisition from tho Potono Borough Council asking that tho additions to the local post office be suspended until tho Minister had paid a visit of inspection, Mr. T. M. Wilford has received a reply from the PostmasterGeneral, which states that operations could not bo suspended, as cessation of work would necessitate a payment of compensation to tho contractor, which would not be warranted. Tho PostmasterGeneral, however (tho communication continued), would pay a visit to Petone 011 Monday for the purpose of hearing any further representations from borough councillors or residents.
At an emergency meeting of the Upper Hutt Town Board on Wednesday evening Mr. John T. Bengo was appointed assessor for th© board iti connection with the Valuation Court sittings, to lx> held on May'3o, in placo of Mr. Wilford, who is unable to net.
Constable Mahoney, of Upper Hutt, was callcd upon on Tuesday Inst to tako charge of a man at Silve.rstream, who, after threatening to murder one of tho inmates of the hotase in which lie lodped, had taken poison. The man li.is cmce been handed over to the Mental Hospital authorities for reformative treatment and detention meanwhile.
