AS TOLD BY SIR JOSEPH WARD. SHARE IN EMPIRE DEFENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Afsociation—Copyright London, May 21, The Royal Society of Arts building was crowded when Sir Joseph Ward gave an illustrated lecture on "New Zealand as a Place of Residence." He dealt exhaustively with every feature, also with social legislation, trade, improved communication, and sport.
• Lord Brassey, at the conclusion, praised the lecture, and paid a tribute to New Zealand's share, in Empire defence, mentioning the satisfaction lit must bo to the donors to bo able to inspect the battleship New Zealand.
Lord Plunket, the Hon. Thomas Mackenzie (High Commissioner for New Zealand), and Sir John M'Call (Agent-Gen-eral for Tasmania) made felicitous speeches.
