Pfitone 1 Artillery 1 Hereawa. 3 Pakelui A 2 JJui Mai (j l'akelui B 1 Tho fourth, round of tho competitions, under tho management of the Wednesday Hockey Association, was played yesterday afternoon in good weather. All tho grounds wera eminently playable. Tho game between ketone and Artillery took placo on tho suburban ground, and, after a close game, ended in a draw. In the game between Ibreatva and I'aktlia A (played at Karori) tho former sprang a surprise on the older team by defeating it by 3 goals to -■ Hul Mai and I'akehu Ii mot in a fa-it flame, which ended in tho defeat of the younger team by a somewhat heavy margin. PETONE—ARTILLERY. Artillery broke away from the "bullyoff," but the rush was Stopped by Parrant at half-back, and.Petone forwards then bu3tl»d play into Artillery's circle. T'hero W. M'Jiwan luid a shot at goal, just missing the net. . With the turn of the tide, tho Artillery forwards forced play into Petone's half, only to lose tho advantages through one of the players giving "sticks." prom the free-hit I'etono had 'Artillery on the defence, but several shots at goal were stopped by the lino defence of tho Artillery backs. May cleared, but over-rim the ball, and \V. 31'Ewan, getting possession, raced for tho circle, passing to Bums, who sent on to J. M'Ewan, the last-named . sending it lack to his brother, who missed .an easy Shot at. goal. At this. stage the Artillery forwards—particularly May, Gleoson, and Gillespie—were putting in good work, and they presently had Petone in trouble, but Dolling, at full-back, saved in the nick of time by driving the ball down the field. Artillery, however) ivero not to be denied, Saunders, at centrehalf, getting the ball, sent it to May, to Gleeson, to Gillespie, and back to Gleeson, who sent it on to James, who pdt oh the first goal for Artillery. The spell ended without further score.

In tho> sscond spell, Petone at once' rushed play into Artillery's quarters, and Tapling just failed to find the net. Shortly after W. M'Ewah threw away an easy chance. The game was now very fast for a time, the ball travelling from end to end, and jfcotU goal-keepers doing 6ome fine work.) The Petone forwards at this stage were doing all the attacking, but could. not get past . the Artillery defence. From a penalty corner Petone missed a, chance by getting in ono another's rond Saunders clearing and Tnpling centring to J. M'Ewan, who sent the bull to Cavill, who shot a fine goal. Petone forwards, were putting :up a great fight to get ;a win in, and they had Artillery defending when the whistle sounded,'

For Artillery the whole of the backs played a great game. Of the forwards May and ttleeson were the best. For Petone,- Boiling, at full-back, Pointon and Parrantj at .half, and ,T. M'Ewan and Cavill, forwards, were tho pick. Mr, Austin was referee.

' HEREAWA—PAKEHA A. After about ten minutes the Hereawa forwards broke away, and took play into the oircle. Pakeha saved by giving a corner froni which, however, Robinson shot a nice goal. For a time Pakeha had the play over tho half-way line, but eventually Robinson got away, a-nd a nice bit erf. passing finished in Kuch finding the net. Just before half-time Shearan (for Pakeha)' found the iiet, and tho spell ended with Hereawa lending by ono goal. In the second spell Pakeha, playing with better , combination, had several chances, but bad shooting spoiled them. Clapsliaw (Pakeha) then scored from a. corner-hit. Pakeha, 2; Hereawa, 2. Pakeha now put more life into their worli, and had Hereawa pinned down, but conkl not get through the. defence.. Then tho Hereawa forwards (through a free-hit) got away with tho ball, and had play in Pakeha's circle. Pakeha gave a corner from which Lo Coinpte hit tho winning goal. At tho call cf tim,e Hereawa.were defending. ' ' Mr. Manning was referee. HTJI MAI—PAKEHA B. lu first spell Hui Mai. scored -t coals to nil. The scorers were Bree (2), Robinson and Brooker one each. Iu the second spell play w«3 of a more even natnre, Hui Mai scoring 2 goals—Brooker 1 and Lippett 1, while Dr. M'Killop scored for . Pakeha. Mr. Ejnpson was Teferee.
