HOCKEY.
At the meeting of tho Wellington Hockey Association on Monday evening a letter was received from the Victoria Club stating that the opponents of their third elevep (the Hutt Valley team) had failed to put in an appearance on Saturday. They did not ask for a win by default, but wanted a ruling on the matter by the association. It was decided to ask the Hutt Valley team for an explanation. TJio Wellington Club entered a protest against Karori's win by ono goal to nil on Saturday, May 3, on tho grounds (1) that tho Karori goal-keeper lost his stick and immediately afterwards interfered with a Wellington player, thus preventing him from scoring; (2) that, in. the absence of tho referee appointed, , tho game was controlled by a member of one team, instead of a member of each team acting in his own half; and (3) that a Karori player carried the ball, then kicked it, and scored a goal. It- was decided to dismiss the protest, as the evidenco showed that the Wellington team refused to take the whistle when requested to do so. The other two grounds of protest were on matters of fact, iu which the ,Teferee's decision was final. The Xew Zealand Association wrote sinling that the annual meeting would be held in Christchurch on .Tune 17. The secretary (Mr. A. A. Benne'r) was instructed to endeavour to have the lease with the Karori Borough Council completed by next meeting.
