FRENCH ARMY DEMANDS.
RADICALS* OPPOSITION. Br -Press Association—OoDrricht Paris, May 19. M. Caillaux, an ex-Prime Minister, addressing the Radicals, said he opposed the three years' army system. It was undeniable that tho international situation demanded further efforts on the part of France. More caro was necessary with regard to the training of tho reserves, and some system of military education, of the young should be devised. The Radicals' counter-proposals aim at thirty months' service with tho incorporation of conscripts twice yearly. PROTESTS AGAINST TRIENNIAL TERM. A MELEE. Paris, May 19. Socialist agitators organised a soldiers' demonstration at Toul against triennial service. A major and lieutenant, wbo remonstrated, were roughly handled, being eventually rescued by civilians, who thrashed fifteen of their assailants. Cavnlry finally dispersed the meeting.
