ORGANISATION FOR GENERAL STRIKE,
SYNDICALIST IDEA.

The Northumberland Miners' Council, by forty-two votes to nineteen, defeated a Syndicalist motion urging the organisation of all grades of labour, with a view to a simultaneous strike, but resolved to prosecute the demand for shorter hours and the ini'rease of tlu> surface workers' wages. WHAT DARWIN STRIKERS WANT. IN VIRTUE OF A PROMISE. Darwin, May 20. Tho strike of members of the Amalgamated Workers' Association employed by the Federal Government, and who demanded a wage of .JM for a forty-four-hour week, continues, strikers having decided not to resume work until tho Administrator concedes lis. 3d. daily, which they claim in virtue of a promise made by Mr. Thomas, Federal Minister for External Affairs.
fWhen the Strike Committee presented its demands, Dr. Gilmth, the Administrator, stated that he had no power to grant them, but he offered to submit' the matter to arbitration. This the men rejected, and decided to adhere to their demand for £i a week for forty-four hours.] DISMISSED DRIVER REINSTATED. London, May 19.
