A burglary was perpetrated in the George Hotel, Pitt Street. . r A constable saw a man leaving the hotel, j and after a long chase he fired five shots from his revolver at the runaway. On closing with the man. tho constable liurled the empty weapon at him, and it struck the refugee on the shoulder, sluji- s gering him. He was then captured. The t safe' at the hotel, containing .£55 in cash, i and jewellery valued at .£3O, was discov- c ered to have been rifled. All the articles of jewellery were recovered, and the money was found strsv.-n along tile line of flight taken by tho burglar. NO DIVIDEND.' BURGLARS RAID TATTERSALL'S ! CLUB. Sydney, May 19. Burglars blew up a safe at Tattersall's Club containing a large sum, representing bookmakers' Saturday's winnings. Tho explosion aroused the inmates, and the robbers * esoaped, but without any booty. THE ROBBERS' SOLACE. (Rec. May 20, 0.15 a.m.) Sydney, May 19. It transpires that the charge was insufficient to open the door of the safo in Tattersall's Club, but the force of the explosion smashed the woodwork surrounding the safe, and did damage to the furniture. The robbers opened the cash register, but there witf nothing inside it, so they solaced themselves with meat, bottles of wlnisky, and cigars. WELL-KNOWN CRICKETER ROBBED, TROPHIES TAKEN. Adelaide, May 19. Burglars visited the residence of Clem Hill. They removed a 3001b. weight safe from a passage, within a few feet from where Hill and his wife were sleepiug, took it outside, blew it up, and secured jewellery valued at .£SOO, including a number of the famous cricketer's presentation trophies. Apparently four men were engaged in the burglary. They cut all tho electric connections.
