NEW THEATRE NAMED.
THE GRAND OPERA HOUSE. At a mooting of the directors of thA> Wellington Opera House Company, held yesterday, it was decided to name tho new theatre at present beins erected in' Manners Street East for tho company, th« Grand Opera House, to distinguish ia from tho existing Opera House. J,t is assumed that, colloquially, the new theatre will be known as "the Grand." It was reported that Messrs. Sanders' Bros., tho, contractors, had their work well in kind, and 'thene was 110 doubt that it would bo, ready to open on Boxing Night next. A contract has been lot for the supply of ail asbestos curtain of the latest design, Together with tho machinery for working it. The theatre will bo provided -with an up-to-dato switch-board, which will control' a complete system of coloured border and' foot-lights, nil equipped with "dimmers for fine shading anil lighting effects. Tho contract for tho supply of iron tip-up upholstered seats for the stalls and dress circic has been lot to Messrs. Kirkcaldi© and Stains. In this respect provision is being made for the scat-backs to extend well down to the level of the platform; behind, so that thero will bo no risk of J occasional kicks from tho straying feet 01 those seated behind.
