Allen will arrive at Auckland on Juno 3.

The Hon. W. Fraser, who leaves for Pahiatu-a to-morrow, will attend a meeting of the Farmers', Union there in tho evening. A number of p:oplo from Iffasterton are to attend. On Thursday the Minister will proceed to Pongaroa, where ho will spend thlo nig'ht. On Friday ho will visit Eketahuna and go 011 later to Masterton, where he is to bo entertained in tho evening. Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Ciowe, V.D., of tho New Zealand Defence Forces (retired list), died at tho risidence of liis daughter in Lorno Street on Sunday night, aged 88. The deceased was torn in. Ireland, and joined the l>sth Regiment in 1843, retiring wit lithe rank of sergeant in 1866. Mr, 1?. A. Marshall, whoso death occurred in Wellington recently, was in the samo regiment. In 18G7vLieutenant-Col-onel Crowe was enrolled as colour-sergeant of the old Veteran Volunteer corps (subsequently the Wellington City Rifles), which was formed for tho reception of tho Duko of Edinburgh', and continued until the formation of the Territorials. From 18li9 to 1880 ho commanded the Wellington City Rifles. He then became major, and subsequently lieutenant-col-onel, commanding the First Wellington Rille Battalion, now tho Fifth Kegiment. In 1889 he was placed 011 the retired list. He was awarded the New Zealand war medal, tho Volunteer Dccoration, and a military pension from t'ho Imperial Government, as well as Civil Service superannuation. , Deceased served in the Civil Service as clerk And asistnnt storekeeper of tho Defence Department from 18G6 till about 188 S. The late Lieutenant-Colonel Crowe was married to a sister of Mr. John 1 Thompson, solicitor, of Wellington, who predeceased him by thirty-nine yeai|s. Ho has left a family of two sons mid a daughter. At tho request of the deceased, the funeral, which will toko place tomorrow morning, at Iho Bolton Street Cemetery, will beta private one.
