THE LICENSING ISSUE.
Sir, Whilst taking exception to B.ii. s undemocratic reasoning, I should like to point out that he is tackling tho business lrom the wrong end. Instead of taking tlijj. bull by tho horns, ho has got him by the tail, a process that will land hum in trouble cverv lime.
Sir, lis community should be cursed bv liquor saloons, brothels, opium dens, or gambling hells until the question hail been submitted to the popular vote. L;t us apply "8.8.'5" way of reasoning and see how it s works out, substituting tho word "evil" for "interdict." "It is surely not undemocratic to insist that no popular 'evil' shall be v accepted unless adopted by a proportion of electors in itself sufficiently largo to indicate that the proposal was supported by young and old alike'" I'his would mean tho death of "The Tradl.'," and the salvation of many boys and girls at present attending our schoois who will assuredly go down if "Tho Trade" continues—l am, etc., VOX POPULI. May 18, 1913, P.&.—"Tne youthful and inexperienced" havo their eyes open, and don't fail to notice that the misery, crime, and poverty which thrive in licensed .districts are practically non-existent in No-Licenso areas.—V.P.
