TRAGIC ACT IN BOULCOTT ST.

$ DETERMINED SUICIDE. A man named Alexander Thompson shot himself with a revolver in Boulcott Street at about half-past eight on Saturday morning. Two or three witnesses saw the man fall to the ground, still holding a smoking revolver. Dr. Pollen was summoned as quickly as possible, but on. arrival found that the man was dying from tho effects of a wound under the heart. Shortly afterwards Thompson was t-'iken in an ambulance to tho hospital, but ho died there a quarter of on hour after being admitted.

One eye-witness of the shooting ',»as a lady, who was sitting at a window of her house, when sho saw a man coming down tho street. Ho stopped by the edge of (ho footpath and sho saw him lako a revolver from his pocket and fire.

Another witness, who was in tho street, noticed the man standing, and then immediately heard the report.

Papers found on the person of deceased showed that his namo was Alexander Thompson, and that ho was about thirtyfive years of age. lie was a stonemason bfr trade, and arrived from San Francisco by the Moura some time ago. Apparently he had not worked at his trade since his arrival hero. He stayed at a bo-irding-house in Boulcott Street, and is described as having been a quiet and reserved man of slightly eccentric habits. A six-eham-bered revolver was found beside the body, with five chambers loaded and ono discharged.

When they searched tho room which deceased had occupied at his boardiiulniusc, tho police found a letter addressed to the Inspector, of Police at Wellington bv Dr. Henry. The letter stated that in the writer's opinion Thompson was a man wiio required looking after.

Inspector Hendry informed a reporter last evening that the letter when iVund was sealed, and had not been opened, lie assumed that Thompson had consulted Dr. Henry, and that tho latter had written tho note, advising Thompson to deliver it. This, however, Thompson had not done.
