Wilkinson, 11.1'. for Eguiontv speaking at tho Taranaki provincial conference of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, said that ho did not always approve of what the union did. For instance, it had passed a remit a littlo while ago requesting tho Government not to put an export duty on raw material exported from Now Zealand. Now, they had one article—whito pi no timber—ou ■which an export duty certainly should bo put. Tho Australasian people wore using it largely, but New.'Zealand wanted it herself, and they must chock.exporting in the lavish manner which they were now doing. This was a duly which they owed to later generations. Kauri was practically exhausted, and Australians had cotuo over hero and bought up the white, pino forests, so that it was now a very diiheult position to deal with unless an export duty were put on.
