EMPIRE DAY CELEBRATIONS.
Sir,—l notice by tho papers that the business men of London consider it necessary for tho safety of tho Empire to combine in assisting tho Defence Department in the purchase of airships. New Zealand having received tho gift of an airship lately, more Mill have to follow. As' Empii'o Day is near, I believe no more fitting way to celebrate the occasion could bo chosen than that of assisting in further cementing the bonds of Empiro on Empire Day by raising funds throughout tho Dominion sufficient to present an airship to the Defence Department. This, I think, could bo accomplished through the press of the Dominion unitedly inviting subscriptions for tho purpose through the papers in their respective districts. Of course, the time is short to raise the amount in, still it often happens that a. short and decisive appeal is moro successful than a long-drawn-out one. Trusting some able leader will take the matter in hand and bring it to a successful issue.—f am. etc., NEW ZEALAND.
