— WOMAN STARVES TO DEATH. London, May 4. Evidence given, at an inquest, on Urn death of an old woman who was «i pensioner under tho Insurance Act showed tliaj; she had died of starvation. The woman was a widow, 7(! years of ago, ami lived by herself. She wasmissed by her ueighlxjurs, and when nothing had been seen of her for several days a starch was made. She was found in her room, delirious with hunger. Tile police surgeon wlio attended her boforo her death, ami who gave cvidenco at the iiif|nesjt, said that; while tho pension was holpl'ul when friends gave assistance to the old people, it was useless by itself to maintain tliem. It was better that they should lie sent to ivorlthoufes. To expect persons to live on as. a _wcck was criminal. Tlie law needed altering — "Sydney Sun."
