• c SUMMARY AND FORECAST. Present indications arc tor strong southeasterly breezes, cold and changeable weather, showers, especially on the East Coast, and a rising barometer everywhere. The weather has been very cold, and rain 'has fallen upon most parts o£ the country, with strong southerly winds, and gales arc still reported on the bast Coast of the South Island, but the 6torm has decreased in intensity. Fciiding, May 16.—Fino day and night. Otaki, May 16.—Fine. but. cold. Shannon, Hay 16—Fine and dry; frost at night. , , , Fcathereton, May 16.—Southerly wind nnd occasional showers. Carterton, May 16—Cold, wot weather prevails, with a stiff wind from the south. Grcytown, May 16—The weather is still c-olcl and wintry, and rain is threatening. Tho heavy snow on the ranges portends a cold period for some time. Should it change and a mild rain fall it would mean a serious flood in tho rivers here. Masterton, May 16.—Heavy rain fell here to-day, and a cold southerly is raging tonight. Hastings, May 16.—'Weather fine, but biting cold wind from south blowing.
