Mr. Kanby pointed out that tho required outlet for s'tock across tho ranges would shorten tho driving distanco to Wellington by about 30 miles, and would increase tlio price of fat sheep by about Is. per head. Tho length of tho road' asked for would be about four miles. It was .stated that Mr. Wakoman had rooantly interviewed the Primo Minister on tho matter and Mr. llnssey had promised to obtain a report. A 9 tho result of tho conference combined action will now bo taken by Paiiiatua, Eketahuna, Alfredton,, and tho East Coast settlers, Hukanui, Mangamaire, and tho West Coast in urging that tho road should be made, Tho matter on this side of the ranges is in the hands of Mr. G. W. Stephenson, chairman of tho Horowhenua County Council, and Mr. J. Robertson, M.P.
