THE STRANDED LINER.
WEATHER BLOCKS SALVAGE WORK BATTLESHIP AS TUG. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Wanganui, May 15. Tli; unfavourable weather has so far prevented the tug Tei'awhiti from leaving CastleclilT for salvage work at tho Indrabarah. It is proposed, should circumstances permit, to sail early tomorrow morning. There is a good sea running to-night, anil it will have ,tn •moderate before it is any use for her\ to go to the scene of tlie stranding, but as the "Weather Bureau reported that <tlio wind would veer round to the south and last, it was expected that the .sea would subside sufficiently to warrant the "Terawhiti making her exit. Any wind, but (specially ail east wind, is preferred to the westerly gale which has been blow- . ing and driving tlio Indrabarah further in-shore. An easterly gale would bs welcomed. The Terawhiti lias a very fino salvage plan!, and it is proposed to'pnt out three anchors, on which tlio Indrabarah's winches will be brought to hear, while the 'J'erawhiti will also render her powerful assistance. The actual plan of action will, however, not be dccided till the Terawhiti arrives on the scene. Everything depends on the weather which prevails at tho 'time. MR. FLUTCIIEK'S SUGGESTION. Mr. 11. Fletcher, chairman of the Harbour Hoard, yesterday suggested thiu uie services of 11.M.5. New Zealand should be secured for tlio purpose of towing tho Indrabarah off. A I're.ss Association message from Christchurch last night stated:—Mr. Mnssey will confer in Christchurch with Captain llalsey as to the possibility of H.M.S. New Zealand towing 'the Indrabarah off Bangitikei beach, as suggested by Mr. Fletcher, chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board. SALVAGE EXPERTS CONFER. - At Wanganui yesterday, a eonfercneo was licld between Mr. Daniels, the Union Company's salvage expert, Captain Rainey, superintendent of the Tyscr Line, and Mr. Birkett, who is in charge of tho salvage operations on tho Terawhiti. By this means il: was hoped to arrive at a thorough understanding in regard to tho work of salvage. Captain Rainey and Mr. Daniels will return to the beach, and Mr. Birkett will return by the Terawhiti to the scene of the mishap. Tho Wellinglou-Waiiganui Steam Packet Company's Stormbird, which leaves hero for Wanganui this evening, will make an attempt to lay a 1 three-ton anchor for tho Indrabarah to-morrow'morning. The vessel will take in the necessary gear to-day. If tho Terawhiti manages to get to the scene of tho wreck she will lay three anchors (weather permitting) either to-day or to-morrow. If the work proves satisfactory, an attempt will bo made to refloat the stranded Indrabarah on Sunday or Monday. ' i The secretin- of the Shipwreck Belief j Society (Mr. E. S. Wilson) on Monday | telegraphed to tho Mayor of Marlon: "Would bo pleased to know if relief is required by any members of the crow of tho Indrabarah." On Tuesday he re- | ccived tho following reply:—"So far as aware, no relief required at present."
The Secretary of tho Post Office has received tho following telegram from the postmaster at Bulls;—"lndrabaraii to-day maintained her broadside position, about two hundred yards out, although sea again very high. Lloyd's surveyor and lu'r. Daniels and Captain Rainey spent all day at tho beach, making preparations for towing. Very little, however, can be done with present weather prospects." LONDON REHNSURANCBS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rcc. May 15, 1.5 a.m.) London, May 15. The Imlrabaoh has been rOlfi'surod at <£55 per cent.
