DEATH DUEINQ OPERATION. The death occurred yesterday morning at Nurse Lucas's private hospital of Jlr. B. Grylis, who was nt the time undergoing an operation. The patient had been suffering from a strangulated rupture for some timo,, and, at 11 o'clock on Wednesday night, Dr. Tollnirst was called to see him. Tho doctor deemed it .necessary to operate at once, and, a couple of hours later, with Dr. Young and Dr. White, ho commenced the operation: The patient, however, died before tho operation was completed. It is supposed that heart failure was the cause of dentil. Mrs. Grylis is now on her way from Westport to Wellington. Deceased has a eister (Mrs. Gragan) residing in Eltham. DEATH OP A STOEEMAN. (By Telegraph.—Frees Association.) Napier, May 15. W. J. Heiford, storeman, in the employ of Jlfcssrs. The police have received information that a married woman named Marina Mary Roper, 35 years of age, is believed to have committed suicide by hanging herself at Courtenay at about 5 p.m. yesterday. GARDENEft SHOOTS HIMSELF. ' Auckland, May 15. Edward Williams, a gardener, shot himself in (he head to-night, it is alleged after a quarrel with liis wife. The police state that the man had been drinking heavily, and during a quarrel his wife threatened him with nil order. Thereupon ho pointed a revolver at her, but she managed to knock it away. He then fired at himself, inflicting a wqtind above Hie temple. The man has been removed to the hospital. His condition is not serious. There is no trace yet, says our Wanganui correspondent, of the body of tlie lad Sneucer Abbott, who was drowned at I'itiirilci on Sunday. There was a considerable flood in the river at the time, and it is believed that the body ' was washed out to sea.
