13IGHTY-SIX APPLICANTS. ' Eighty-six npplic.ilions have been received for 111 1 ? position of city organist. This was reported at Inst night's meeting of the City Couiic.il, and it was further reported tin reply tod question, by. Councillor Fletcher) that sixty-three of the op. plications were from abroad. The question of narrowing down the number of applications gave rise to some little discussion, but eventually, on the suggestion of the Mayor (Mr. J. I'. Luke), it was decided to refer the names to a committeo of six, with a direction to re-, ducc the number to four ami report lo the Citv Council. The following were chosen for the committee:—Jlr. Kotert Parker, Jlr. Lawrence Watkins (St. Mark's), ])r. W. Kington Fvffo (St. Peter's), Jlr. W. Harland, Jlr. I. .Mount (St. Mary of the Angels), Mr. i\ Leslie Peck (Wanganni).
