BALANCE SHEET. RESULT FALLS SHORT OF £2000. A. meeting of the Executive Committee of tho Citizens' Easier Carnival was held at tho Town Hall last evening. The Mayor (Mr. J. I'. Luke) presided over an attendance of about 25 members. In tho coursb of a short speech, Mr. Mayor congratulated the commilteo on their effort. Receipts and Expenditure. The secretary (Mr. Jl'Bain) submitted a provisional .statement ot' receipts and expenditure, as follows:— Ueceipts: Hale ot" art union tickets, .£llls 13s. Od.; donations, ,£315 lis. 9d.; Carnival gate receipts, JMO-i 135.; Carnival stall receipts, .£S7U 18s. 3d.; advertising and sale of programme's, .£(>9 Ss.; band concert, .£ls Os. Id.; Carnival concert, A'4o 55.; Lyall Eav gala, £31,£s. lid.; boxing tournament, .£ls lis.; picture entertainment. .£ls ISs.; bowling tournament, .£lB 10s.; cicc;.ric light tenr.is tournament, ,£lO os. lil.; motor-cycle tournament, .£73 Bs. lid.; sundries, .£2 3s. lid. Total, ,£2314 lis. sd. Expenditure: Printing and advertising, .6211 7s. Sd.; stalls expenses, .£l9l Bs. id.; general expenses, ,£l4O Ms.; prizes (art union, sports, ctc.), ,61-IS 17s/lid.; salary and wages, ,£79 ISs. lid.; lighting department, ,£4(> 95.; Victoria College Sports' Association, .£35; custodian Newtown Park, ,£10; sundry accounts, .£"29 lis. It was pointed out tint the net result of tho Citizens' Carnival towards creating a fund for the purposes of beautifying tho city would la about ~1839 odd. It was also mentioned that the receipts at this vear's Duuedin fete came to XlOll lis. 3d., and the expenses amounted to .£725 IDs., leading a credit balance of <£SSS 19s. 3d; . . ' After discussion the provisional bat-anc3-sheet was accepted subject to the City Council adopting certain recommendations of tho Tramways and Finance Comlnittee. as to an account of .£126 Ds. Gd. charged'up to the Carnival Committee. Tho balance-sheet will be audited and submitted to a later meeting of the General Committee. °

Bonus to Secretary. A recommendation from a Special Committee set up, to the effect that an amount of .£SO bs paicl to the sccretarj, was unanimously adopted. Wanted: "Zoo" Rockery, Tower, and Spire. A letter was received from the Wellington Zoological Society forwarding a resolution as follows:—"That it bo a suggestion to the Carnival Committee that it should vote about ,£3OO of the funds for an artificial rockery with tower and spire on the highest part of the enclosure in which the thai' are coinmcd. The tower part could be named lho Citizens' Carnival Inauguration .Memorial.' Tho letter was received. Make it ,a Yearly Carnival? ■V communication embodying a motion was submitted by Council or Luckie as follows: —'Iliac tho ton Citizens' Carnival be mr.de an annual all'air •to be held about t.ie tluru 01 fourth week in .January of each year and that a conunittcc be fortuwitli set up to make the accessary, arrangements in connection therewith.". It was decided to repiy to the cucct that the motion would be considered wlien the General Commutee deals with this question.

Students' Claim Turned Down. ( Tho application of the Victoria College Students' Association lor an increase ill the amount of .K5 paid to the association for conducting their tournament at Newtown Park at Easter was authorised to bo replied to. The reply was to bo to the effect that tho committee could 1101 make' anv further vote towards the reduction • o"f their deficit. How Allocate the Funds? In regard to tho question of the disposal of funds the following motion was moved by Mr. D M'Larcn and seconded by Mr. K. Fletcher: "That a meeting of the general committee of tho Citizens Carnival be called, and a statement placed before them with a report, and they be asked to cjnsider and advise as to the allocation if tie surplus: and also with respect to future carnivals; and that the special committee to control tho expenditure ot •tho fund be called together to submit recommendations to the general committee."—Carried.

Other Business. It was decided to- nsk Mr. A. T. Clarke to audit the carnival accounts. It was revived that letters of thanks be sent to the Boy Scouts and the bt. John Ambulance Nursing Association, thanking them for v.-ork performed at. the carnival, and that the finance committee be empowered to make special grants to botli. organisations to adenuately remunerate them. On the motion 01 Mr. A. A. Paape, the following resolution was carried by acclamation: "That the uearty thanks of the committee be accorded to the exMayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. D. M'Laren) for the great amount of energy and work performed by them in making the carnival the success whicli The secretary wits authorised to send copies of the resolution to Mr. .and Jrs. M'Laren. . , ~ ~,T A'motion was passed (on Mr. ..ILaien-s instance) recommending tho general committee to consider tiio advisability 01 forming a Citizens' Beautifying Society that will continue the wor:c ironi year to vmr and to make such rules for the conduct.
