FERRY BOAT SINKS.

The steering gear of the Balmain ferry boat Birkenhead was thrown out of order by tho heavy seas in the harbour, with tho result that tho vessel became unmanageable. The ferry boat finally crashed into a jetty. Sho then drifted into tho fairway, where the damages sustained in the collision caused her to sink. There were no passengers jon board the Birkenhead a't the time of the disaster. Tho crew of four men wero rescued.
