TWO MORE ESTATES BOUGHT
BY THE GOVERNMENT. The Government has just completed the purchase of two more estates which will be cut up for settlement. Both aro in the Southland district. Olio is luiowsley Park, an estate of 49!» acres, situated seven miles from Mataitra. It will cut up into moderate-sized mixed farms. The other estate is Waiarikiki, of 1113 acres, situated about eight miles, from Mat aura;, and from Pukerau Railway Station. This estate also is suitable lor subdivision into moderately-sized iarms. Dairying oan be profitably carried on over' a considerable portion of its area. Speaking to a reporter last evening regarding tlio areas which the 'Government has recently acquired for settlement, the Prime Minister said that somo of the estates would not bo available ior settlement for some months to come. In c onio oases delivery of tho laud will bo delayed fur a time to give the late owners an opportunity to get rid ol their slock. Other areas which have been purchased will be available for settlciticlit almost immediately. Most of the smaller properties which have been purchased come under tho latter category, whereas it will probably lie impossible to put settlers on Hillcrsden before the New Year. Several of the small estates will be cut up for settlement before November. ■ . Negotiations are in progress 'at tlio moment for the purchase of estates in different parts of Neji* /(.'.aland, and turtlior acquisitions are likely to be announced. .shortly.. "The .Government has made up its mind," the Prime Minister stated, "lo satisfy, the demand tor land for settlement."
