At llie Horoivhenua Counly Council meeting on Saturday occasion was taken to bill farewell to Council lor \cnii, «ho leaves on Thursday lor England M\lll Ml'?. Venn tor health reasons. Councillor \Vat»on, in' voicing tho sentiments of those present, wished both Mr. ami Mrs. \ enn a nleasant trip, and trusted both would return in good health. Councillor \ cnn» in reply, said bo was sorry to be away from tlic council, as there was much work Id bo done, especially in repani to hospital mailers. Ho had no iloubt, however, but that the Department would keep oil shelving the matter, and that, in consequence, there would bo much work lcit lor him un his return. H had been his wish to resign from the council, but the ratepayers would not hear of it, so nr. had consented to still remain a. member. jlr. It. E. Brighton was appointed asses: sor to represent the council at tho Assessment Court. . Mr. arid Mrs. f. Selwyn Simcox, who had been on an extended visit to the South Island, have returned north, much improved in health. Mr.Simeox has returned home, but Mrs. Simcox has none on a visit to Carterton. , While Councillor Sherman was surname near a tire at tho Council Chambers, Levin, on Saturday, his overcoat caught tire and in a moment there was a blaze. Tho firs was quickly extinguished, without anything' more serious than some damage to tho coat. Mr. J. Malcolm, engineer of the Ilorowhenua County Council, has left for Masterton for medical treatment by Dr. lloskiugs.
