DIRTY MONEY.
Sir, —I have been long waiting and hoping that our doctors, or others interested in sanitary affairs, would warn and insist upon our having clean money, but thews workers for health and life-s.av-ing still remain inactive and dumb. People often grumble at the soiled bank notes, but: the coins aro far more filthy, for tiie flimsy paper money cannot be thrown, carekssly into dirty pockets, so is less handled; besides they are burnt ami replaced by clean ones sometimes.. Just wash, even »C 1 worth of coin in a basin and sco tho stato of the water. Think what is on our coin—decaying atoms of meat, tisli, and vegetable* matter. But, worse still, the money is handled and, pocketed by our unfortunate pcoplo afflicted with all manner of diseases and infectious complaints. Then there are t.hoso who ar» awfully, dirty—the horridly unvaried. Complaining is of little u c e. so I venture to suggest a remedy. With regard to bank notes—let us insist that our banks in New Zealand do as our great llnnk of .England does, giving'tho clean note issued once, or else is=ue paper money in tho same way as our P.O. postal note. It could noi; incrwiso the danger of counterfeit, because it would not be loir: in circulation, and the paper is cheap. Willi regards ! to tho coin—hero is an opportunity for some inventor tn'consfrii.et a",d pa'"nt a machino for washing, disinfecting, drying, and sorting tho money (the one that does so will, I trust, make his One of these machines could then be>.m use at every bank and post office, and witli business firms Vho are handling large sums at a time. Our drapers are doing up our goods each year in more dainty fashion, yet still hand us dirty change. Wo seo our most cleanly people P™n!- r about (inito contented with, well-nlleil piirse= filled with polluted coin. I tru-<t, Jfp. Editor, that you will interest your<wlf in this matter. Thanking you for giving this space in your payer—l am, K.M.G.
