Mr. Fisher, Federal Prime Minister, referring to the statements made yesterday by the I'ov. Fred. I'aton regarding dual control in tho Now Hebrides, said it was evident that some action would have to be taken by, Australia to get into closer touch with the Government of the New Hebrides. It wns impossible at present (Mr, Fisher continued)'to say which would bo the Best direction to take action in the near future, but it,had become necessary to niako a ik'iiiiita move. [Rev. Fred I'aton, a New Hebrides missionary, declared that there was only ono satisfactory way of solving (ho problem of the control of the Islands—namely, buying out tho Frcnch interests. Mr. Paton estimated that it would cost from J2£f)o,ooo to .£300,000 to do su, but the expenditure should bo regarded, as an insurance, since the group in its present, condition constitutes a- positive menace to Australia. Japanese and Tongkingew were, Mr. Faton stated, pouring into New Caledonia, whence they could easily go to tho New Hebrides. Ho suggested tjiat Australia and Now 'Zealand should combine in the acquisition 'of the group.J
