OHRONOMETER RATING NOTICE. Sector Observatory, Wellington.—Tho position of tho Hector Observatory is as follows:— . „ .. Latitude, 41deg. 17min. 3.765ec. South. Longitude, 11 hours 39min. 4.275ec. East of Greenwich. Height, above 1909 mean., sea level, 418 feet. Chronometer Rating Notice.—At 1 p ; m. to-day a galvanometer dgnal for rating chronometers will be sent from the Observatory to the Public Telegraph Office and to the Dominion Museum. The needle will move at 1 p.m. exactly of Now Zealand standard mean time, when a chronometer sot to Greenwich mean time should show 13 Miours 30min. Any difference will bo the error of the chronometer on Greenwich mean time. At 9 p.m. correct time will also bo signalled from tho Observatory by means of olectrio lights. A green light will bo switched ou nt about 9.45 p.m.. a red one at about 8.55 p.m., and a white ono a. about 8.59 p.m., and all lights will bo switched off at 9 p.m. exactly of New Zealand standard mean time. The preparatory switching on of the lights must be considered as only approximately correct, and must not bo used for rating chronometers. The correct time for rating will bo given by switching off tho lights simultaneously at 9 p.m. oe adamßi Government Astronomer. Wellington, May 15, 1913.
