(Beforo Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) FALSE PKETENCE. Thomas Henry Simkins was charged with having obtained <£10 by falso pretences from Richard "White, of Pctone. It was alleged that Simkins had- represented himself as Jack Murtagh (whoso family Mr. Whito know), nn(i had got tho money as a temporary accommodation, after stating that ho had a draft for .£SOO in a bag which "his sister" had taken with her to Wellington. Simkins denied having represented himself as Jack Murtagh, and said that he had not obtained the money on any pretence, but had asked straight-out for a loan. Hia Worship convicted Simkins, and fined him .£5, in default fourteen, days', imprisonment. Ho also ordered defendant to refund tho £10. > THREE MONTHS' GAOL. Robert Pobar was sentenced to three months' imprisonment for being an idle and disorderly person, and was fined XI for having broken a window, THEFT CASES. JoseplT Johnston wa3 fined ill for tho theft of a pair of boots from Thomas O'Brien's shop in Cuba Street. Georgo Maxwell Kellly was accused of the theft of brushes, combs,. valued at 17s. 6d., belonging to Joseph John Annstrong. Ho was sentenced to two week's imprisonment.
