BROTHERS IN ARMS.
IN THE HOUR OF IMPERIAL NEED. MR. ALLEN IN CANADA. SEA LANES OF THE PACIFIC, / By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. May 11, 5.5 p.m.) Ottawa, May 10. Tho Canadian Club lias entertained the lion. Jas. Alien at Winnipeg. In a speech Mr. Allen outlined Now Zealand's naval and military progress/ and declared that should the time ever come when Canada was menaced New Zealand would be able to throw an expeditionary army of eighty (?) thousand men to her aid. 'The defence question, said Mr. Allen, was more pressing in Now Zealand than in any other parts of the Empire because of her proximity to the Far East, which brought the question of tho Oriental menace into the region of possibility. He. again urged the necessity of Canada, New Zealand, and Australia co-operating to safeguard the sea lanes of (the Pacific. [The message is printed as received, but the reference to an expeditionary force of 80,000 is an obvious inaccuracy. The strongth of such n force, it lias already been mentioned by Mr. Allen, would be SOOO.]
