MASTERTON NOTES.
(By Telegraph.—Special CorrospSndont.) Masierton, May 11. In tlio g'oif match played on ilio local links yesterday, Mustcrton defeated C'arTerton by five matches to throe. At a large, representative, and enthusiastic meeting of settlers of Wairarapa, held in tin; A. and P. rooms yesterday, it was decided to tender a welcome homo to Sir Walter Buchanan, M.P., on his return from England. A meeting is to he held in Carterton on Thursday next, when an executive committee will be set up. It is proposed to hold an after function at Carterton, and an evening gathering at Grevtown. Tho Mastcrlon A. and P. Association yesterday decided to assist in the formation of a veterinary class at tho local Technical School, and to ofi'er small prizes for competition among members of that class. Several members of the association spoko stronglv in favour of tho establishment of agricultural high schools in tho Dominion as n tU-pping-stone to a college. Tho annual meeting of tho Wairarapa Caledonian Society was held yesterday, when Mr. .1. U. M'Kenzie was re-elected president. Tho report and balance-shco! were of a highly satisfactory character.
