FIRES.
OUTBREAK AT TAIHAPE. (By Toleeraoh.—Press »siocintion.) Taihape, May 11. A fire occurred at 2.15 this morning in a block of shops opposite the railway station, owned by Mrs. Jilliott Wilson, viul occupied by Mr. J)olau (rc.-tauruit-keeper), Miss JJorron (fruiterer and confectioner), and .Mr., Rice (restauvaiit-k-ecpcr). The brigade was promptly 011 the scene, and attacked the outbreak, which had a good hold. There was a splendid water pressure, and in a little over linlf an hour the brigade got the flames under. The damage to the buildings is estimated at about UMOO. The insurances aro 4300 in the State ofiice of Dolan's stock. The effects were not insured. The loss is small. On Miss Doreen's stoel; the insurance is JSO in the Norwich Union office and »CSO in the Commercial Union, exclusive of another <CDO taken out on the previous day. Miss .Doreen's stock is a total loss. Rice's effects were insured for J;9O in the Commercial Union office. The origin of tile fire was, apparently, a defective chimney. CHILD PULLS A LAMP OVER. Blenheim, May 11. Last evening a five-roomed house in Hutchcson Street, owned by Mrs. Burke nnd occupied by Mr. W. Tarrant, was totally destroyed by fire. The outbreak was "caused by an eight-month-old child pulling the tablecloth from a table containing an oil lnmp. Very little was saved. The insurances are:—On the house, d£2SO in the Phoenix office; on Hie furniture, .£IOO in the Guardian office.
