FRUIT OFFERINGS FARE BADLY, Inquiry mado at the Blair rnd Allen Streets markets yesterday elicited the information that the continued bad weather has had a serious effect on the fruit trade generally, whilst pears in particular have suffered severely. Large quantities of this fruit arrived at tho market during the week, but priccs were not such as to encourage any immediate repetition of consignments. The monthly shipment of Fiji bananas arrived yesterday, and opened up in very fair order. On Wednesday transhipments of oranges from the Friendly Islands arrived from Auckland, but V.-ere not in good order. The prices received for both oranges and bananas were under last month's values. Winter vegetables are now arriving in large quantities, and most lines are realising very • payable priccs, one exception being swedes, which are now selling at a low figure. Yesterday's approximate values were:— Pineapples, 12s. to lis. per case; Messina lemons, 12s. (id. per case; large local grapes, lO.jd. to Is. per lb.; others, Cd. to i)d.; Australian passion fruit, Bs., 10s. per bushel; local grown, is., Is. Gd. per half bushel; Island oranges,'ss. per ease; Fiji bananns, (is., 10s. per case; dessert apples: Jonathans, 55., 7s. lid. per case; Brownlces russets, 4s. lid., ss. !Jd.; nonpareil russets, Is., Is.
