MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
THE SPEED LIMIT, MOTORISTS AND THE BY-LAWS. At tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, liefore Jlr. \V. G. liiddell, S.M., Frederick Meyer was fined IDs., with costs 75., for having driven a motor-car at more than eight' miles per hour across an intersection, and was ordered to pay costs (75.) for having motored along Courtcnay l'laco at nioro than 15 miles per hour. Ho pleaded guilty in both instances. Nathan Seddon pleaded guilty to a charge that ho had motor-cycled along Courtonay l'laco and Manners Street at moro than 15 miles per hour. lie was lined 10s., with, costs 7s. MISUNDERSTANDING ON TRAM, William Monahan, nn elderly resident of Karori, in fact, described by his counsel as "ono of tho founders of Karori," was charged with, having attempted to evade payment of I a tram faro on tho Karori line. Mr. T. M. Wilford appeared for tho defendant, who stated that ho had been talking to another passenger and had not noticed the conductor call for fares. Tho magistrate said that he would not convict tho defendant if he was prepared to pay tho costs of the proceedings. Defendant undertook to do this, and the case was dismissed. The costs amounted to 13s. RULES OF TEE ROAD. John East wi\s required to pay court costs 75., on a charge of having ridden n bicyclo without a light in Tory Street. For a similar class of offeuce, committed in Adelaide Road, Harold Low, also, was ordered to pay court costs 7s. Walter Dell, a youth, was ordered to i pny 18s. costs for having driven a vehicle on tho wrong side of Cuba Street and Manners Street. A fine of 55., with costs 75., was entered against Arthur Salisbury for having driven on tho wrong sido of Cuba Street. John Evans was fined 10s., with costs 75., for having driven an express at more than a walking pace around tho corner of Manners Street and Cuba Street. Harry Wilts wa9 fined 55., with costs 75., for having driven a vehicle without a light. . . . For having left a motor-car in Vivian Street without lights, William Hobbs was fined 55., with costs 7s. OTHER CASES. The Town and Country Supply Stores were fined £1, with costs 75., for having failed to close their shop at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9. Thomas Roliertson was sentenced to one month's imprisonment for having deserted the steamer Tyrone. James Oliver Armstrong was sentenced to ono month's imprisonment for having stolen a bicyclo belonging to Austin Tyler. The sentonce is to be concurrent with one which ho is now serving. For breaches of the Defence Act (failure to attend parade) tho following were convicted, and in the majority of cases ordered to pay costs:—David Patterson Ferguson, James Telfor Ferguson, Robert John Ivin. L. S. Carmichael, H. W. Gardner, and t W. P. Tresedor. ■_ ' As the persons responsible for stock which were found wondering, John Brodie was fined as., with oosts 13s. H. Halton was convicted. Kathleen McEnroe was ordered tojjay oosts, 75., respecting a prosecution arising out of tlio fact that her cliimney had caught fire.
